🏆 Killarney Claims First Place at Summer Festivals 2026

June 30, 2026

Killarney finished the meet in FIRST PLACE, bringing home an impressive 20 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Congratulations to our medal winners:

Dorothy Dean, Salim Ibatullin, Jacqueline Li, Daniel Maclock, Emily Piatek, Serena Quan, Lauren Rawnsley, and Sophia Shpak.

Sophia Shpak had a remarkable weekend, breaking three club records, including lowering her own provincial record in the 100 Breaststroke.

New Club Records

  • 11–12 Girls 100 Breaststroke – 1:12.45 (Provincial Record) – Sophia Shpak
  • 11–12 Girls 100 IM – 1:08.42 – Sophia Shpak
  • 11–12 Girls 200 IM – 2:29.60 – Sophia Shpak

Killarney also had four swimmers recognized for earning Youth Recognition Times. Sophia Shpak achieved a Top 1 Canada ranking, while Dorothy Dean, Jacqueline Li, and Emily Piatek all earned Top 10 Canada times in their events.

One of the unique features of Festivals is the North vs. South Relays, where the top four 50 Freestyle performers from each region earn a place on the relay team. Killarney was proudly represented by Daniel Maclock, Lauren Rawnsley, Dorothy Dean, and Sophia Shpak on Team South. Congratulations to all four swimmers on this outstanding achievement.

The meet was exceptionally fast, with all of our swimmers stepping up and performing at their best. One of the weekend's highlights, however, came outside the pool when the Killarney boys entertained the crowd by dancing the Macarena on the bulkhead and getting everyone involved in the YMCA during a technical delay. 🎶

Our swimmers perform their best when they're having fun, and this weekend was a perfect example of that. We are excited to carry this energy and momentum through the rest of the season.

Great job, Green and Black! 💚🖤 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🏆
