Meldrum, Gigovic, Piatek WORLD CUP Experience & RECORDs!

Killarney Swim Team kicked off the World Cup Events in Chicago (Westmont) and Toronto over the last 2 weeks. World Cups are held short course 25m format, Open Aged Racing, and attracting the best in the world to compete for placing and prize money!

Head Coach Mike Meldrum and Matea Gigovic were members of Team Canada for both events.  The 13-day road trip included training camp and competition.  

In Chicago, Matea (age 17) and a little under the weather, competed in the 50 Fly (26.84-16th) PR*, 100 Fly (59.54-15th), and 50 FR (25.99-29th).

In Toronto, Matea competed in the 50 BK (28.99-33rd), 50 FR (25.81-25th), 50 FL (26.80-11th)PR*, 100 FL (59.07-13th).  
Alan (age 16), competed in the 100 FL (54.15-18th), 50 BK (25.23-23rd), 50 FL (24.58-27th)PR* 

In Toronto, both Matea and Alan set Provincial Records for Swim AB respective age groups!  Matea lowered her own PR 50 Fly from Chicago.   Alan broke the 50 Fly, previously held by GINZER

Meldrum commented, “This weekend, 9 World Records were set, many Canadian Records fell both National and provincial.   It was amazing to be part of team Canada, the energy in the building was fantastic.  You all saw Liendo’s WR 100 Fly… incredible.  And being able to eat, sleep, travel beside the Canadian Coaches was such a highlight and experience.”
